Many plants belonging to this large order with very different families make up the undergrowth of the vegetation in a specific area, and therefore act as a buffer. Other buffers can be found in human use of these plants, like rubber from the rubber tree, or the coca bush with its numbing effect. A whole range of medicinal plants buffer the hardship of our everyday life. The order is heterogeneous, can be found worldwide, and comprises around 17,000 species.
