Pandanales, or adaptation through movement ...

Pandanales

The Pandanales are a small order with around 800 species and five families. The best-known representatives are the screw palm, which grows in the tropics of Asia, and the Panama palm from Panama, whose fibers are used to make hats. The plants ensure their survival with movement, forming helical stilt roots like the screw palm, or by rolling off like the seed pods of the Panama palm. It is interesting that the screw palm often grows where diamonds can be found in compacted soil.
